Maison Takuya was created by Francois Russo, who as a child while his mother was shopping in HERMES, he was in the workshop above the Saint-Honoré store watching the bags being created 100 percent by hand. From seeing this meticulous way of making bags, which is nearly a lost art form today, inspired him to start his own luxury brand.
The origin of Takuya means Takumi (匠) and Takuestsu, or in English, craftsmanship and excellence, so House of Craftsmanship and Excellence. In keeping with this, Maison Takuya only uses the best quality leathers which are all from the HERMES tanneries.
Francois Russo graduated from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in 1989 and began his career at Cartier, where he helped establish Cartier’s Institut Supérieur de Marketing du Luxe. Russo then moved to the marketing division of L’Oréal, and then to The French Mint where he was appointed International Director in 1991. In 1995, he joined Havas Advertising. In 2001 he founded an image agency where he engaged in art direction, professional photography and interior design. In 2005 Russo was engaged as a design consultant for Chanel. In 2007, he designed the commemorative Jacques Helleu Chair for the leading Italian furniture maker, Poltrona Frau.
